SAARIAHO Asteroid 4179: Toutatis
Gabriela Lena FRANK Picaflor: A future myth (Oregon Symphony co-commission, West Coast premiere)
HOLST The Planets

Take a tour of the Solar System with Holst’s popular The Planets, featuring seven orchestral fantasies that range from warlike “Mars” to mystic “Neptune.” The suite joins Saariaho’s Asteroid 4179: Toutatis, inspired by the asteroid whose orbit passes closest to the Earth. Gabriela Lena Frank’s Picaflor: A future myth, in its West Coast premiere, draws on the mythology of Andean Perú to evoke the sky kingdom, its sun god, and its mischievous hummingbird (picaflor).
