Montavilla Jazz Festival 2026 continues with a double bill of original music, contemporary jazz, and rhythmically charged ensemble work.
The evening begins with Orbits Trio, pianist and composer Grant Richards’ newest project. Built around the classic piano trio format and expanded through prepared piano, auxiliary percussion, arco bass, and occasional synthesizer, the group explores original music shaped by emotional intersection, improvisation, and the forward momentum of Richards’ years in New York.
The night continues with Domo Branch Quintet, led by drummer and composer Domo Branch. Featuring a group of Portland musicians, the quintet presents original music rooted in groove, protest, and contemporary jazz, responding to life in America today with singable melodies, strong rhythmic identity, and a commitment to truth-telling through music.
