Born and raised in California, came of age in the great outrageous 60s. Learned to play in places where the world was biting at the door and everybody knew it. If you didn't sing about the dangers you were suspect. It was a lesson I never forgot. Went to New York City on New Year's Day 1970. The great asphalt parade grounds got my attention and taught me to look over my shoulder. The songs got teeth. Went to Seattle in '71 where the last folk club closed and the whole town opened up. Played the streets, the campus, the bus station, the cocktail bars, the rock bars, the TV stations, the radio stations, the city council chambers - everywhere people gathered was a venue. Legalized street performing in 1974. Made first record in 76 - produced by Barry "The Fish" Melton. Went to England in '77. Europe opened up. Lived and toured there for three years - from '79 to '82. Based in Dublin. Recorded for WEA Ireland and Nacksving in Sweden. Toured with Swedish band The Globe Trotters and Irish band The Moving Hearts. Back to the Sates in '83. Experimented with acoustic ensembles, trios, duets. Created legendary rock band Zero Tolerance. Played all around the northwest for 4 years and broke up right after recording. Typical. Formed also legendary partnership with Artis the Spoonman of Sound Garden fame. Resuscitated solo career along with a team of excellent side players who could float and groove and fly the blind corners when the goin' got whimsical. Just recorded album number 21!
