J-Jazz is best known as the title of BBE Music’s landmark compilation project (J-Jazz: Deep Modern Jazz From Japan 1969–1984) curated to showcase rare and influential Japanese modern-jazz recordings. The compilations and the later J Jazz Masterclass reissues, compiled by Tony Higgins and Mike Peden, helped revive international interest in previously obscure Japanese jazz artists and made many tracks available again on vinyl and digital formats.
