Composed between 1822 and 1824 and premiered in 1824, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 is the composer's final complete symphony. Its fourth movement famously sets Friedrich Schiller's poem 'Ode to Joy' for soloists and chorus—one of the first major uses of voices in a symphony—and the work has become a global symbol of human solidarity, later adopted as the Anthem of Europe.
